Hey! My name is Derek Klingel and I am from Long Island, New York. I am currently a senior in high school. I plan on attending college once I graduate and I want to major in Business. I am self motivated, focused, and responsible. I find joy in working hard and challenging myself to be better at whatever it is that I am doing. I love to do things to satisfy myself rather than trying to do things to get others to accept me. In my free time, I love to go to the gym and lift weights, go for distance runs, and hangout with friends. Making the right decisions is essential for happiness because we only have one life to live. What is your favorite type of food?
Pea Soup is my favorite food. I know this isn't the most typical favorite food, but it tastes amazing and I would prefer it over anything, even pizza. I have it once in a while for dinner, because my mom makes it for me and it takes hours upon hours to make pea soup. It takes like 6 hours, which is insane. My second favorite food would be a cheeseburger. I order burgers when I go to most restaurants and I can eat them for dinner for at least 4 nights in a row. They are easy to make and easy to clean up so it is a win win.
What is your favorite type of music?
Pop and country would be my two favorite genres of music. I generally like upbeat music that I find to be catchy. My favorite singer/entertainer is Jennifer Lopez and I listen to her all of her songs all the time. I love performances where there is dancing, an upbeat song, and it is full of positive energy and JLo usually can bring that to the table. Some of my other favorite singers would be Flo Rida, Carrie Underwood, Jason Derulo, Pitbull, Ariana Grande, and theres a lot more. I like a lot of music and then there is some that I do hate. I hate Sam Smith and cannot tolerate listening to his music. It is too slow and I can't relate to the lyrics so I hate it. He cannot dance and I'm not entertained when he is sitting in a stool singing. So that is my music taste, and I think everyone can like whatever music they want, because it is all opinion.
What is your favorite season?
This has always been a pretty hard question for me to answer. I feel like I've always been debating between summer and winter, because fall and spring are like the "in between" seasons to me. I absolutely love winter because I am obsessed with skiing and I love the cold and the snow. Then I also love summer because the beach is very fun and having no school. So I have never really been able to decide, but sometimes I think that in my mind, I am leaning towards liking winter more.
What is your favorite Tv show?
I like a lot of Tv shows and have liked a lot in the past. "Covert Affairs" was definitely one of my favorite shows. My favorite actress, Piper Perabo was the main character and the show was about the CIA. It was a spy drama, but it is not on anymore because I don't think it was popular enough. I absolutely love the show, "Shark Tank" because it is about entrepreneurs who pitch their business idea to the sharks. Since I sort of want that to be me one day, I enjoy watching how people present themselves and their unique ideas also. I like more tv shows such as Big Brother, American Idol, Eye Candy (with Victoria Justice) and others.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
Well, there is really an unlimited things I could say to answer this. If I had one wish, I would wish that I had amazing singing and dancing talent. Then I would be able to try to use that talent to perform and try to make it big and become famous. I still get to enjoy the hard work it takes to become famous and being able to sing well is something I feel like I have always wanted my entire life and won't ever be able to have.
Do you support the Republican or Democratic party?
I am a Republican and I agree with most of this parties' views. I am not that person that is crazy obsessed with politics. My family and most of my friends also agree with the republican views. I believe that taxes should not be increased for the wealthy and that there should be a flat tax. To increase taxes on the wealthy means that people are being penalized for being successful and it is so wrong. A person should never be afraid to make more money because they don't want to be taxed more. Many people that I talk to that are Democrats will say "What about the poor?" and "We need to help them". I can agree that some poor people need support, however, there is a huge difference in helping the poor and giving money to people who are lazy and would never work for it. I just believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to reach their full potential and that everyone should be rewarded for working hard. There are many more conservative views that I agree with.
What do you think about drugs/smoking?
I strongly oppose all drugs and smoking. I've never smoked anything ever before in my life and I have never done any drugs also. There is absolutely nothing that can change my mind about this topic. I think smoking is disgusting and smells bad also. Many people like to do drugs for fun. I believe that there are a million better things to do for fun. Just because somebody smokes doesn't mean that I will hate them. Sometimes I will feel uncomfortable if I'm with someone who is addicted to doing drugs and what not, but that is reality. It makes me sad that so many people think that this is the best thing to do for fun and that this is how to get people to like you. I can't control what other people decide to do with their lives, but I will never in my life smoke anything.
Do you enjoy spending time alone?
Yes, I love to spend time alone. Being with other people is fun, but then it is also nice to be alone sometimes. When I'm alone, I usually am very productive. It is nice to read a book or watch a movie when I'm alone. I feel like when I'm by myself, I don't have to entertain anyone and I don't have to worry about making anyone else happy except myself. It is very relaxing and I think it is necessary to be alone every once and a while.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is "Coyote Ugly" starring Piper Perabo, who is my favorite actress. It is one of the very few things in my life that will last forever. I promised myself when I was around 10 years old that this would be my favorite movie till the day I die and I believe there is a 100% chance that it always will be. There is so much I could explain about why I love this movie!
Who is your role model?
To be honest, I don't really have a role model. There isn't one person that I want to be like. I mean, yes, there are some people that I want to be like, but overall I don't think I really have a role model. I have an image in my head of who I want to be and I can be my own role model.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
This was my first time singing in front of people! I'm not very good, but I was happy I tried!
